The Marine Mammal Center – Phase II Improvements
Location: Sausalito, CA
Use: Marine Wildlife Rehabilitation
Delivery: Design-Build
Architect: Noll & Tam Architects
BASE Design provided comprehensive structural engineering services for Phase II improvements at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California.
Working from design bridging documents as a foundation, our team developed the complete structural design, prepared construction drawings, supported permitting, and provided construction-phase services within the environmentally sensitive Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The project expanded and enhanced critical animal rehabilitation facilities, including new ICU pens, washdown areas, shade structures, loading improvements, and supporting site infrastructure. Structural systems were designed to accommodate durable, hygienic, and operationally efficient care environments, while integrating with existing CMU and concrete structures across a constrained, sloping coastal site.
Design efforts balanced animal welfare, staff workflow, environmental stewardship, and long-term resilience. The completed improvements strengthen the Center’s capacity for rescue and rehabilitation while respecting the regulatory framework and natural setting of the site.

Campbell Library Renovation
Location: Campbell, CA
Size: Approx. 23,000 SF
Architect: Jayson Architecture
BASE Design provided structural engineering services for the comprehensive renovation of the approximately 23,000-square-foot Campbell Library, transforming the existing civic facility into a welcoming and flexible community destination. The project reimagines the library to support open reading areas, collaborative meeting rooms, a fully equipped community room, and dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults.
Structural scope included evaluation and strengthening of existing systems to accommodate revised interior layouts, expanded openings, and updated occupancy demands. Improvements were carefully integrated to support architectural openness and long-term durability while maintaining constructability within the existing building framework.
The completed renovation establishes a bright, adaptable civic environment designed to support learning, gathering, and community engagement for the community of Campbell.
